[caption id="attachment_662" align="aligncenter" width="580"] Bon Festival Lanterns[/caption] Every August, the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, hosts a one day event called the Bon Festival.  This festival celebrates the Japanese custom of Obon, which is a Buddhist tradition to honor the spirits of our ancestors.  It is...

17 Aug Close up of South Florida Beaches

Posted at 08:30h in Blog, Florida, South Florida by Jenna Kvidt 4 Comments

I love the beaches in Southern Florida--specifically in Delray Beach and Boca Raton. They aren't the white sand beaches with crystal clear water, but they are still gorgeous and just as relaxing. My favorite beach is Boca Raton's Red Reef Park as it is secluded...

08 Aug Oldest City in America?

Posted at 10:56h in Blog, Florida, North Florida, United States, Urban Adventure by Jenna Kvidt 8 Comments

When I think of the United States of America's oldest city, my mind reverts back to grade school, Christopher Columbus and Plymouth Rock. So when I learned that the Florida city of St. Augustine claims to be the oldest city in America, I was surprised--I...

30 Jul 36 hours in St. Augustine, FL

Posted at 21:56h in Blog, Florida, North Florida, United States, Urban Adventure by Jenna Kvidt 3 Comments

We picked the wrong weekend to go to St. Augustine: it was HOT! I know it is summer, in Florida, and most of the country had been uncharacteristically hot, but a heat index of over 110 F does not equate to "let's casually take our...

Instagram post 17845601746828064 It’s 1°F here in Minnesota right now 🥶 The temps have us wishing we were back in Key West, Florida, riding a jet ski around the island! We loved getting out on the ocean to explore in a jet ski—it’s something we’ve wanted to do for quite some time, and we finally had the chance last time we were in Key West! Hope you all have a little warmth and sun wherever you are in the world today! ⠀
Instagram post 17858825125584253 One of our favorite places to snorkel in the Florida Keys is John Pennekamp State Park! We went on a tour with the state park and made our way out to the Christ of the Abyss statue for an afternoon of snorkeling. The reef there is beautiful and there is a ton of marine life. It was such a fun afternoon in the water! ⠀
Instagram post 17907979114372636 Last time we were in Key West we went kayaking in clear kayaks! We paddled through crystal clear waters and it almost felt as though we were gliding through the air. It was such a strange but amazing experience! ☀️ 🐠 ⠀
Instagram post 17870964514500753 Views of the 7 Mile Bridge and the Old 7 Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys. 🏝 We always love stopping and going for a walk on the old bridge when we are exploring the Keys! ⠀ ⠀ The Old Seven Mile Bridge is currently closed and under construction, but normally it’s home to a 2.2 mile biking and walking trail from Marathon to Pigeon Key. Can’t wait for it to open up again (in 2021), so we can make another pit stop at one of our favorite spots. In the meantime though, you can still take a boat tour out to Pigeon Key to learn about the fascinating history of the island and both of the bridges! ⠀
