As the board tipped slightly off kilter, I went flying off the edge and rolled down the hill. Sand caked every inch of my body. With a laugh and a quick dusting off, I was ready to go at it again. There would be time...

The lake views around Lake of the Ozarks are gorge The lake views around Lake of the Ozarks are gorgeous! During our trip, we were lucky to dine at several restaurants and visit a winery with incredible views overlooking the lake, especially at sunset. Of course we also visited some fantastic restaurants and another winery a stone’s throw from the lake, as well. The wineries we stopped at were Seven Springs Winery and Shawnee Bluff Winery. And some of our favorite restaurants in the area were LandShark Bar and Grill, Shorty Pants Lounge, Redhead Lakeside Grill and Yacht Club, Paint Box Cafe, and Sip House Coffee. And the malts we had at the Malted Monkey were absolutely insane—they were so good! We always love visiting destinations with an abundance of outdoor adventures, but when a location also offers great restaurants and wineries, it puts it into another category. Lake of the Ozarks definitely didn’t disappoint!

Another state park we enjoyed while we were visiti Another state park we enjoyed while we were visiting Lake of the Ozarks was Ha Ha Tonka State Park. This park has quite a bit of variety and we explored it all. From hiking, to kayaking, to exploring castle ruins, we had a fantastic day!

We started off with a visit to wander around the castle ruins and soak up the history of the site. Then it was time for a few hikes. We hiked to the Natural Bridge and also along the Spring Trail which started with beautiful views of the springs and continued on with lots of leg burning stairs.

To cap off our visit, we rented kayaks and paddled around on Lake of the Ozarks. We lucked out with beautiful weather and a fantastic day enjoying the outdoors! To read about the rest of our Lake of the Ozarks adventures, head to the link in our profile!

We are getting excited for summer already, and tha We are getting excited for summer already, and that has us daydreaming about some of our adventures from last year! One of our favorite lake trips was heading to Lake of the Ozarks for lots of exploring. With more than 1,150 miles of shoreline, there are so many fantastic ways to enjoy the water and surrounding landscapes. On our first day in town, we made our way to Lake of the Ozarks State Park for hiking along the Rocky Top Trail and relaxing along the shoreline. The park is the largest state park in Missouri and one of the most popular, and after spending time there we can definitely see why!

When we were in Colorado this past summer, we made When we were in Colorado this past summer, we made our way to Estes Park. One of the things I couldn’t resist doing when we were in town was a tour of the Stanley Hotel! The hotel is famous for being the spot where Stephen King got his inspiration for the novel The Shining, and it was also one of the filming locations for Dumb and Dumber! The nighttime tours (focusing more on ghosts!) were sold out when we were there, so we opted for a daytime tour which was super interesting. We learned all about the history of the property, it’s owners, the famous guests and visitors, the room where Stephen King stayed in room 217, and even a little about the “forever guests” 👻 of the hotel. It was the perfect activity to do on a day with thunderstorms—the weather certainly gave the property an eerie feel. Next time we visit, we want to plan an overnight stay to see if all the spooky rumors are true!
