Chicago at Christmas

Christmas in Chicago

Chicago is a special place at Christmastime—I always love when cities get all decked out for the holidays and Christmas in Chicago is no exception. We finally had the chance to make a return trip to Chicago, and we are so excited that it could be during the festive holiday season. It’s been quite some time since we last stepped foot in the windy city. Our last visit was before we moved to Florida four years ago, and so it was high time for another visit, especially since it is so close and such an easy trip from Minneapolis!

The weekend was spent checking out some great coffee shops, restaurant hopping, indulging in sweet treats (ahem, Doughnut Vault, aka the best doughnuts ever), ice skating by “The Bean”, overlooking the city from the Signature Lounge in the John Hancock Building, Christmas lights at the Lincoln Zoo, shopping and wandering around soaking up the sights and the lights. Oh, and side note—do yourself a favor and check out Eataly for the wine and meat and cheese platter—delicious. The store is set up like a market where you can eat, drink and shop all at once.

We missed checking out the Christmas market, but here’s a look into the city in all its holiday glory!

Really great photos. You make Christmas in Chicago seem like a good idea and maybe one I should consider since my sister in law now lives there.

Great photos! Chicago isn’t a city I had ever thought to visit during Christmas, but I love Chicago and it does seem like a great place to celebrate the holidays. I have only been to Chicago during warmer months, so it was fun to see to city in a new way through your photos. Thanks for sharing!

Fantastic photos – I do love a good ice skating rink – I had never really considered visiting Chicago for Christmas, but it looks absolutely magical. And great shots over the city skyline! Thanks for the great post!

Loved the post. I have always loved chicago at Christmas ever since I was a little kid. I used to go shopping there for a weekend with my mom and we would take the train in from michigan and see the sights. I have some awesome memories of that town

I LOVE Chicago, but have never been at Christmas! Must add it to my list (especially if the weather looks as mild as what you had!)

NYC at the holidays will always have my heart 🙂

Looks like you had a great time in our fair city. Sorry you missed the Christkindlmarket it is a tradition to attend it every year in our family. Even though it could never compare to the markets in Europe it really puts you in the holiday spirit. Let us know when you return and we’ll show you some of our hidden gems.

I was bummed we missed out on the Christkindlmarket! It sounded like a lot of fun. We will have to do it next year if we make it back around Christmas again! And I’ll definitely let you know when we head back to Chicago–always nice to find hidden gems!

Great shots, esp the night ones with the lights. It really makes me long for going to a city for Xmas, it’s so cheerful. And yay for the ice skating, it hasn’t been cold enough here yet but something the Dutch love to do once it’s frozen enough 🙂

Thanks! Hope it gets cold enough there to go ice skating soon! But, I suppose it’s nice that it’s still warm a bit longer, too 🙂

I love Chicago and their Christmas market! I discovered “Chicago mix” popcorn last December (cheese and caramel corn mixed) and now I have a new festive snack to add to my Christmas nibbles.

That sounds delicious–I will have to try it sometime! I found one of my favorite popcorns in Chicago–it’s a carmel cashew mix–so good! I want some of both now, lol 🙂

I’ve never been to Chicago unfortunately but it looks like Christmas is a special time to visit it, plus I love Anish Kappor so I’d love to see “the Bean” with my own eyes! 🙂
