3 Ways to Bike in Milwaukee

There are plenty of ways to explore Milwaukee, but hopping on a bike might just be one of the best ways to see the city! We’ve been trying to get out and do more biking, so I was excited to find an abundance of different ways to get my pedal on during my press trip to Milwaukee this past summer. I managed to hop on three different types of biking adventures while exploring what the city has to offer: biking with Bubblr Bikes, bar hopping on the Pedal Tavern and a spin class at Spire Fitness. Here’s a little bit more about three fun ways to bike in Milwaukee!

Biking with Bublr Bikes

My first biking adventure of the trip was going for a ride through the bike share program, Bublr Bikes. Bike share programs are popping up all over the place, and I absolutely love the concept. Basically, what you do is check out a bike at one of the bike stations, enjoy a quick ride, and then drop it off at any nearby station when you are done. It’s a fast, easy and cheap way to get some exercise while heading wherever it is that you need to go. Bublr Bikes currently has over 50 stations throughout the city, and their goal is to have over 100 stations throughout Milwaukee and the suburbs.

I found the bikes very easy to ride; the pedals and gears were simple and smooth, and each bike was equipped with a basket to store your belongings. We were led around town by one of the Bublr Bike employees and were able to check out plenty of great spots throughout Milwaukee on our ride. We made our way along the lakefront, to a pretty viewpoint overlooking the city, and through several cute neighborhoods. It was a great way to see a bit more of Milwaukee!

Bar Hopping on the Pedal Tavern

“Roxanne” by The Police was blaring out the speakers. Everyone was quickly standing up, taking a sip of beer, and sitting down, over and over again like maniacs all while peddling a giant bike. We were riding around Milwaukee on the Pedal Tavern, and I never knew it could be so much fun.

The Pedal Tavern is a 16 person bicycle and all the seats are placed around a bar, so it’s pretty much a party on wheels! You can either join a public tour or rent out the entire pub for just your group. If you rent out the bicycle, you can pick from a list of 25+ bars to stop at, and all of the bars on the list have drink specials for Pedal Tavern riders. Each tour usually stops at around 3-4 bars, but you can also bring beer with you to drink while you are peddling, as well.

I was on this trip with Visit Milwaukee and a group of bloggers, so we rented out the entire bicycle. Our driver was so much fun, and we couldn’t stop laughing throughout the entire ride—peddling a giant bike with music blaring was quite the entertaining experience! We started the tour at Steny’s Tavern, and then peddled our way to The Irish Pub, Camp and Central Standard Craft Distillery. All the stops were great, but I think Camp came in as one of my favorites. We’ve seen Pedal Taverns on the streets in our hometown of Minneapolis, so it was great to finally jump on one and give it a try—it really is as fun as it looks!

Spinning at Spire Fitness

I’ve always wanted to try out a spin class but had yet to get around to it prior to visiting Milwaukee. After signing up for the 6 a.m. class at Spire Fitness, I wondered what I got myself into. I am not a morning person and after a late night out, the alarm rang way too soon. But, as I walked into the beautifully designed fitness center, all my concerns melted away. The spin room was filled with funky lighting, bright colors and pumping music; this was by far one of the coolest ways to get introduced to the world of spinning.

Because I had never tried spinning before, this class really kicked my butt! It was certainly a fantastic full-body workout—I was surprised to find moves that got us up off our seat and incorporated our arms into the mix. I loved that they turned down the lights, blasted music over the loudspeakers, and coordinated our moves to the beat. This class definitely gave me the energy I needed to face the rest of the day, and I would go so far as to say it was actually a ton of fun!

It was great to check out a few very different ways to pedal in Milwaukee. All three of these experiences were so different from one another, but they were all a blast!
