A Photo Essay: Florence, Italy

On our last free day in Bologna, we had plans to explore the city. While I desperately wanted to climb the towers and walk to the Santuario di Madonna di San Luca via the long Portico, we ended up abandoning those plans and on a whim decided to venture down to Florence instead as it was only an hour away. I definitely want to head back to Bologna to explore more of the city, but this time, we just felt like hopping on a train for a change in scenery instead. Sometimes you just have to do what you feel rather than what you have planned, and that’s exactly what we did.

While in Florence, we spent most of the day just wandering around aimlessly and soaking up the scenery. We walked along the river and across the bridges, checked out the Duomo, wandered through the markets, glanced at the numerous statues scattered throughout the town, got lost in the winding alleys and, of course, indulged in some delicious gelato. It was a perfect and relaxing day.
