Overnight in Chicago: Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport Hotel

Recently, we found a new love for airport hotels that are located at the airport. Overnight layovers don’t need to be any more inconvenient than they already are, especially before or after an international flight. On our recent trip to Greece, we had two overnight layovers where we arrived late in the evening and had an early flight the next morning; these layovers were in Athens and Chicago, and airport hotels saved us both times. The convenience of being located right at the airport in addition to a comfortable bed and a shower were key to feeling refreshed and ready to go the next morning.

When booking our trips, we tend to opt for the options that give you the most bang for your buck. We usually try to find that intersecting point between comfortable and affordable, but there are many occasions where we have chosen price over comfort. I have been known to book award flights where we have ridiculous connections; hello layover in Norway on the way from Iceland to the USA just so we could redeem miles for a free reward ticket! Or, that time we spent a 10-hour layover sitting in JFK to save a few bucks. Sometimes these decisions make sense because the amount of money we save is definitely worth our time, but I’m the first to admit that I like a little convenience and luxury once in awhile, too.

When we reached out to the Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport hotel about our layover in Chicago, they graciously offered to host us for the night. After landing in Chicago after almost 24 hours in transit, it was so nice to walk outside and across the street to our hotel—no waiting for a shuttle required.

A few perks of the Hilton are the multiple onsite restaurants, a direct connection to the airport, fitness center and a pool. We ordered a delicious pizza from the sports bar and brought it back to the room to eat, as we were exhausted. Originally, we had plans to head into town, but since everything we needed was right at our fingertips and after such a busy two weeks, we wanted to hang out in our room and relax as much as possible.

If you do stay at the Hilton and want to head to downtown Chicago, you are in luck because it just a short train ride away. You can take the train straight downtown to explore the city, but will still be close to the airport when you check out for your flight.

Overall, the hotel is nice, clean and convenient. We were upgraded to a suite and got to spend an evening in a very nice room, but as with all Hiltons, you can expect a great level of quality no matter which category of room you stay in.

One thing about this hotel that I loved was one side of the hotel faces the runway so you can watch planes fly in and out! It was entertaining to have a view of the airport that you don’t get to see very often, and it was definitely interesting to watch the tarmac when jet-lag woke me up well before our flight’s departure!

The Chicago Airport Hilton is a great spot to visit on a layover in Chicago, and I can say that if we have another overnight layover in Chicago, we will definitely stay there again. After lodging in two on site airport hotels over the course of our Greece trip, I can say that we are officially sold on pampering ourselves a bit on long layovers—it’s one cost that’s definitely worth it in our book!

Many thanks to the Hilton Chicago O’Hare Hotel for hosting our stay. As always, all opinions are our own.
